GranCabrio opens a new chapter in the history of Maserati
This model is different from any other model the company has ever produced.
In fact, the interior is spacious enough to seat four people, a first for Maserati.
The name alone lays acclaim to the tradition and experience of Maserati with a concept that is based on that of the
GranTurismo and going past the life of GranSports.
The name implies how much different this model is from every other one that preceded it.
The model is a cabriolet but gives new definition to the term.
Technical Information
The Maserati GranCabrio is 4,881 mm in length with a height of 1,353 mm and wheelbase of 2,942
mm.
The car's maximum permissible weight is 2,350 kg with a weight distribution of 49% in the front and 51% n the rear
(closed); open allows 48% in the front and 52% in the rear.
The 90° V8 engine has a displacement of 4,691 cc and a compression ratio of 11:25:1 with a maximum power output of
323 kW.
At maximum power the engine has a speed of 7,000 rpm and 490 Nm torque power.
Two overhead camshafts per bank and four valves for each cylinder control the timing of the engine
through the use of hydraulic tappets. A processed call continual phase variator controls the overhead camshafts
that are located on the aspirated side.
When technology combines this process with the optimisation of the combustion chamber the engine is able to reach
82% of the maximum torque (up to 2500 rpm).
The transmission in the GranCabrio consists of a six-speed ZF automatic.
The transmission also includes a hydraulic torque converter in order to allow very fluid gear shifts without
compromising the characteristics of this sporty eight-cylinder engine. The transmission has four modes and also
includes a self-adapting control for the purpose of changing the gears to adjust to the specific driving style and
conditions of the road.

The car includes a Skyhook suspension that is electronically controlled using dampers with an aluminium body.
The system is designed to constantly adjust the damping thus allowing the suspension to adapt instantly to both the
driver's style as well as the conditions on the road at any given moment.
Another advantage of the Skyhook system is its ability to use acceleration sensors in order to detect any movement
of all the wheels on the car as well as the body. As soon as the control unit notates and processes the information
it receives from the sensors, it analyzes the driving style and conditions on the road in order to make the proper

The Maserati Stability Programme (MSP) continually monitors and optimises the electronically controlled systems in

to lock. It also distributes the braking action between the front and real axles of the car and prevents spinning
of the wheels when the driver attempts to accelerate or climb on surface with low gripping action.
Safety Features
The GranCabrio includes a number of safety features both active and passive beginning with the Maserati Stability
Programme mentioned in the previous section. The high performance Brembo brakes that are standard on the GranCabrio
include four self-ventilating drilled discs.
The design of the front brakes consists of 360 mm of co-cast disc technology combined with callipers controlled by
six pistons in one aluminium block.
This design ensures the brakes will be able to stop the car regardless of how intensely the driver relies on the
brakes.
Instead of the standard hand brake, the GranCabrio has an Electric Park Brake that automatically engages any time
the car's engine is turned off and only deactivates with the compression of the accelerator pedal.
The system can also be engaged in an emergency while the vehicle is still moving and will remain engaged until you
release the switch.
Passive safety features include specially designed air bags that adjust the intensity of inflation to the size of
the occupant. There are also head and chest airbags that protect occupants from side impact crashes. There are
certainly other passive safety features as well, but these are the most important ones in this model.
Keep in mind when viewing these technical specifications that they refer specifically to the European version of
the GranCabrio and refer to information that was available at the time of production. Not all models of Maserati
